Clara M. Maag, 86, of Catawba Island, passed away Saturday, April 13, at Otterbein North Shore Retirement Village, Lakeside. Clara was born on Aug., 1932 in Kokomo, Ind., the daughter of Nannette (Waylord) and Harold Freeland. In 1968 she married Charles Maag and he preceded her in death Sept. 19, 2011.
Clara worked as a secretary at Danbury High School for 27 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of Firelands Presbyterian Church, Port Clinton,where she had served as a Deacon and participated in the Thursday study club. Clara had also served on the Ottawa County Fair Board.
Survivors include children, John Maguire (Anne) of Findlay, Ohio, Susan Van Huis (Paul) of Ludlow, Vt. and Christina Bachmann (Steve, deceased) of Ira, Vt., and grandchildren, Jason Maguire of Findlay, Ohio, Samantha Herrick (Jeff) of Las Vegas, Nev., Hailey Maguire of Findlay, Ohio, and Jessie Bachmann and Ali Bachmann of Ira, Vt. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, John Maguire, brother, Edwin Freeland, and sisters, Laura Alling, Juanita Lawhorn and Naomi Hallam.
Clara generously donated her body to the Ohio State University in order to improve the lives of others. A private graveside service will be conducted at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Clara may be directed to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to Firelands Presbyterian Church, 2626 E. Harbor Rd., Port Clinton, Ohio 43452.
