PORT CLINTON – When Kelly Dombrowsky was working in law enforcement as a single mom in 2013, she wanted a little extra fun money for her kids, so she started cleaning houses part-time. When she retired from law enforcement, she decided to delve fulltime into providing cleaning services, and she formed Dombrowsky’s Dust Monkeys Cleaning Service, LLC. That was in 2018, and today, Dombrowsky’s Dust Monkeys is one of the most unique cleaning agencies in the area because of its wide scope of services.
“It started as a side hustle, and when I retired from law enforcement, I thought, ‘What’s next?’” she said. “I decided to clean fulltime.”
Dombrowsky’s Dust Monkeys offers cleaning services for private residences, commercial enterprises, restaurants, marinas, rentals and more. Services are offered weekly, monthly, or as often as the client wishes.
“We also do construction cleanup. We can come in and clean the drywall dust and mess,” Dombrowsky said.
But Dombrowsky’s Dust Monkeys doesn’t just clean houses. It also offers several services to make life easier for its clients.
“We do it all – doggie daycare, property management, package pickup, upholstery and carpet cleaning, pesticide services and personal shopping,” she said. “A lot of homeowners live out of town. We shop for them and get the home ready before they come back.”
She also offers property checks for when those homeowners are not in town. Dombrowsky and some of her subcontractors who are current or retired law enforcement officers stop by homes to check windows and doors and do a general scan of the property.
“We do a lot of property checks,” she said. “If I lived out of town, I would want a very broad cleaning service. Every client is unique, and we provide unique service for every client.”
Soon, Dombrowsky will add lawn services to her business’ long list of options.
“We are a very broad cleaning service,” she said. “When I opened my business, I said I wanted to do something to stand out.”
Dombrowsky’s Dust Monkeys serves over 300 clients, and Dombrowsky is assisted by about 20 subcontractors.
“We’re big, big, big. We work six to seven days a week, which is good,” she said. “Right now, I have the best team I’ve ever had.”
Dombrowsky chooses subcontractors who are proven and qualified. Her team includes a wide variety of trusted individuals, including people with disabilities, people in recovery, retired nurses and school nurses.
“Every subcontractor is on a case-by-case basis with me,” she said. “A lot of what we do is attention to detail. Anybody can clean, but not everybody can say they pay attention to the details.”
Dombrowsky’s Dust Monkeys’ tagline is, “We don’t monkey around,” and Dombrowsky calls her business “the cleaning service with a heart.” Senior citizens and veterans receive discounts on cleaning services.
“We really care about our clients,” Dombrowsky said.
Dombrowsky invests her business success back into the community.
“We donate to a lot of charities. My girls pick a couple charities every year, and we donate to them,” she said. “We try to pay it forward. You can make all the money in the world, but for everything that happens, you have to do something in return.”
