Coach Diaz stepping down

Dan Diaz, the head swim coach for Port Clinton, has announced that he will be stepping down from his position after 24 years. Diaz made it official at the state swimming meet in Canton on Feb. 23. Diaz is a health and physical education teacher at Port Clinton and will continue teaching.

Diaz coached seven SBC championship teams and two district championship teams. Diaz has also won the Coach of the Year award three times and sent at least one swimmer to the state meet each of the last 22 seasons. Diaz has coached two girls’ state champions. Mackenzie Stewart won the 200 IM title in 2010, and Kami Periat won the 100 backstroke as a junior in 2023.
