The Ottawa Sandusky Seneca Solid Waste District is hosting another Pumpkin Composting collection at the county fairgrounds in Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca counties. During November there will be drop off bins located in the fairgrounds of each county where residents were able to drop off their pumpkins and gourds used for seasonal decorations. They will be delivered to an area farm where they will be composted and their nutrients will be brought back to the soil.
The pumpkins will get delivered to Andre Farms in Wauseon, Ohio where they will be specially composted. Compost that leaves their farm has 300% the plant nutrition of topsoil and can be used as a substitute for traditionally manufactured petroleum based fertilizers.
