Ottawa County Community Day will feature resources, presentations, giveaways, prizes and fun.

Last year, Ottawa County Community Day highlighted the resources of dozens of local agencies, and this year, the event promises to be bigger and even more fun. Ottawa County Community Day will be held on May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ottawa County Connections Center at 8200 State Route 163 in Oak Harbor.

“Over 70 local businesses and agencies have come together to make this day possible. We’ll have over 50 booths,” said event cochair, Michelle Veliz. “We’ll have more family-friendly activities for kids and more raffle prizes and giveaways. No one will leave empty-handed.”

The purpose of Ottawa County Community Day is to connect local residents with resources they may not know exist.

“We wanted to take time to highlight that May is Mental Health Awareness Month and help people understand how you can take care of your mental health in the community you live it,” Veliz said.

Various booths will highlight different aspects of health because physical health and mental health are intrinsically tied together.

“There are community supports that people may not be aware they have access to,” Veliz said.

The event is more than just a resource fair.

“There will be crafts, DIY projects and presentations. You can make it a fun afternoon out with your family,” Veliz said.

The event sponsors include Magruder Hospital, Leadership Ottawa County, Catawba Island Club, Ottawa County Job and Family Services, Virtu Coaching, Oak House, Harbor – OhioRISE, Edgewood Manor and Ed and Shirley Carlson. In addition to the event sponsors, Community Day is supported by the many businesses and organizations who are taking part in the event.

“This event highlights how much collaboration we have in Ottawa County,” Veliz said. “So much time went into making this day a success.”
