The Ottawa County Municipal Court recently conducted a “Safe Harbor Day” to give individuals with outstanding warrants a chance to address their legal issues without immediately going to jail. The Beacon and law enforcement agencies were instrumental in publicizing the event. Numerous warrants were lifted with individuals appearing in court from as far away as New York and Tennessee. Most individuals had warrants for failure to attend court ordered programs and hearings.
All participants were given the opportunity to attend their programs and all were given new court dates. Louis P. Wargo III and his staff were pleased with the results and hope to make the Safe Harbor Day an annual event.
