The annual Trunk or Treaters bash held by Main Street Port Clinton returned to Madison Street in downtown Port Clinton on Saturday, and with an overwhelming rush of family fun. Hundreds of families brought their little ghosts, goblins, princesses and Raggedy Ann dolls so the youngsters could fill their plastic pumpkins and sacks with candy.
“This is the largest crowd of trick or treaters we have ever had for Trunk or Treaters,” said Nicole Kochensparger, president of the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce. Last year’s cancellations because of the pandemic, and this year’s assurances that Halloween events were back on the calendar, made costumes a major topic again for the kids around town.
Surprisingly, there were many family unit costumes on display, and groups of young teens roaming the downtown area. The biggest hits for the slightly older boys and girls was Kevin Francis’s collection of hundreds of jumbo candy bars at Erie Shores Chiropractic, something adults have not seen in decades. Or a street side vehicle’s trunk filled with a steamer and fresh hot dogs doled out by Mr. Ketchup and Mrs. Mustard.
