In an era when screens and noise and texting keep people distant and distracted, a group of women spent a sunny afternoon connecting over tea in Port Clinton. The Trinity United Methodist Church (UMC) Women hosted the 2nd Annual Ladies Spring Tea and Style Show at the church on April 7. The event featured tea sandwiches, tea cookies and a style show hosted by Fabulous Female Boutique. Women from the church volunteered to model clothes from the shop.

“We’re getting women together to enjoy fellowship,” said Trinity Women member Lois Evans. “There’s no charge. We just want them to be our guests.”

The church’s fellowship hall was packed with women.

“We just wanted to get women from the community together, and we did,” Evans said. “We have women here from all over the county.”

The event was catered by Fancy That Catering, and DeeDee Kramer baked English Tea Shortbread for the event.

Guests choose from a spread of tea sandwiches and cookies at Trinity UMC in Port Clinton.

“The recipe is from a former chef of the queen. It’s made with Earl Grey tea. There are actual tea leaves in there,” Kramer said. “I heard that Queen Elizabeth used to have them in the afternoon.”

Trinity UMC’s Handmaiden sewing group left their handmade touches on the event.

“The Handmaiden group made the tea cozies and 100 napkins for this,” said Trinity Women member, Karen Hull.

The Ladies Spring Tea is just one event hosted by the Trinity Women, who engage in several ministries throughout the year. Among other causes, they support Samaritan’s Purse, Flat Rock Home in Bellevue and the Red Bird Mission School.

“Trinity Women has about 25 members,” Hull said. “We meet once a month and do service projects for organizations and the church.”
