The Danbury Lakers girls softball team fought hard, but fell short in the District IV finals, 4-3, to the Gibsonburg Golden Bears in an Oak Harbor Field match that sent the winner to the state competition. The Lakers rallied in the sixth inning to score three runs and cut Gibsonburg’s lead to just one run, but fell short in the final frame.
Danbury had never won a sectional title in its history, but made comeback wins its trademark this year, finishing 19-10 on the season. The Golden Bears (19-5) captured the district championship to head to the state finals.
