Danbury Lakers swing into a win against St. Joe

The Danbury Lakers Girls Varsity Softball team (7-3 overall, 4-2 conference) defeated the Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic Crimson Streaks (1-4 overall, 1-1 conference) 5-4 in a Sandusky Bay – River Conference game on Friday, April 12. This was a come-from-behind victory for the Lakers as they trailed by three runs. Danbury held the lead 1-0 for the first two innings. Fremont would take the lead in the third inning before Danbury tied the game 4-4. Danbury took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Sandusky Blue Streaks Girls Varsity Softball team won a close game against the Tiffin Columbian Tornadoes 7-6 on Saturday, April 6. Sandusky led 6-5 with three runs in the sixth inning before the Tornadoes would tie the game with a run in the seventh inning. Sandusky scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the win.

The Norwalk Truckers Girls Varsity Softball team shut out the Vermilion Sailors 10-0. For Norwalk, it was Tyra Corbin with three doubles and a single. Haley Gockstetter struck out 16 for Norwalk’s third straight win.The Bellevue Lady Red held off a late-game rally from the Fremont Ross Little Giants for an 8-7 non-conference win. Bellevue had 13 hits in the game. Contributing to those hits for Bellevue were Gwen Strause, Kyra Henney, Ryleigh Knutti and Ariana Holzhauer.

The Clyde Fliers Girls Varsity Softball team defeated the Lake Flyers 13-3 on Saturday, April 6 in a non-conference home game. Clyde scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Ashland Arrows won against the Perkins Pirates on Saturday, April 6 by a score of 10-2. In this non-conference game, Perkins would only score in the first two innings and was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The Huron Tigers split a doubleheader against the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains on Saturday, April 6. The Tigers won the first game 9-6. In the second game, the Chieftains won 10-7. The Tigers totaled 24 base hits.

The Port Clinton Redskins Girls Varsity Softball team is 5-4 overall and 0-1 conference. Recapping their past games, the Gibsonburg Golden Bears won 15-4 on Saturday, April 6, and the Woodmore Wildcats won 3-0 on Saturday, April 6. The Redskins won on the road against the Fostoria Redmen 5-3. Thursday, April 18 will be an away conference game against the Vermilion Sailors at 4:45 p.m. The Redskins travel to take on the Waite Indians on Friday, April 19 for a 5 p.m. non-conference game.
