Sandusky’s St. Mary Central Catholic High School has decided to drop out of the Sandusky Bay Conference for 2019 and an 8-man football schedule this fall. The Danbury Lakers has been scheduled to play Sandusky Central Catholic on Nov. 2.
Pre-K-12 enrollment at Sandusky Central Catholic has continued to climb over the past, but with less than 20 players on the high school roster this year, mostly freshmen and sophomores, SMCC has decided to forego this year’s traditional 11-man football schedule. With strong participation at the middle school level, a return to an 11-man schedule is expected for the 2020 season.
“Given our numbers and limited varsity level experience, a move to an 8-man high school schedule for 2019 allows us to compete athletically this year. This move also allows us continued participation of our band and cheerleading squad,” said Geoff Palmer, school president.
