It’s a long way from Grand Prairie, Alberta in western Canada to the Port Clinton shoreline of Lake Erie. Daniel Miasek, 27, not only made the journey, but graduated from the Terra Community College Police Academy, and was sworn in on Monday as the newest officer in the Port Clinton Police Department.

“Working with the Sandusky County Juvenile Detention Center while
I attended Terra Community College, I found that I really enjoyed working with people, and loved the camaraderie of the Port Clinton Police Department,” said Miasek. “I found police work to be challenging, but very rewarding.”

Miasek and his family left Grand Prairie a quarter century ago, moving to North Dakota. After graduating from high school there, Miasek joined the U.S. Marines and was stationed in Camp Lejeune, N.C., and spent six months in Okinawa, Japan.

“This will be my first police position, and I’m looking forward to the new job, as well as my wife, Emily and I settling in the Port Clinton area,” said Miasek.
