DC Lanier makes history

History was made on Monday, Jan. 8, and again on Tuesday, Jan. 9, when Port Clinton High School senior, DC Lanier, became the all-time leading scorer for the Port Clinton High School Redskins Girls Varsity Basketball team. Lanier broke the long-standing record of 1,407 points that was held by Lindsay Mann Meek from 1990 – 1993. Lanier averages 20.2 points per game and four assists, plus three to four steals per game. Coach Kevin Belden and Athletic Director Rick Dominick planned a special presentation to recognize Lanier on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Several members of the Port Clinton High School 1,000 Point Club attended this historic celebration.

The members of the Port Clinton High School 1,000 Point Club are 2021-2024, DC Lanier; 1990-1993, 1,407 pts., Lindsay Mann; 1987-1989, 1,303 pts., Jacque Mattox; 2003-2006, 1,230 pts., Paula Wargo; 2001-2004, 1,196 pts., Jen Tisza; 1979-1981, 1,182 pts., Brenda Wightman; 1990-1993, 1,126 pts., Laurie Mann; 2010-2014, 1,071 pts., Tiffany Colston; 2010-2014, 1,070 pts., Hope Thorbahn; and 1971-1974, 1,054 pts., Nancy Salatin.

The 2023-2024 Girls Varsity Basketball season will wrap up soon. The Redskins are 14-7 overall and 6-3 in the Sandusky Bay – Bay conference. The Redskins won a home game 63-39 on Thursday, Feb. 8 against the Edison Chargers who are 8-13 overall and 2-7 in the Sandusky Bay – Bay conference. Coming up Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. will be a conference road game against the Huron Tigers who are 6-13 overall and 2-6 in the Sandusky Bay – Bay conference. The Clyde Fliers will travel to Port Clinton on Thursday, Feb. 22. The Fliers are 8-13 overall and 1-8 in the Sandusky Bay – Lake conference. The tip-off is at 7 p.m.
