Dewitz to Lead B-C-S Board

OAK HARBOR—The Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools Board of Education held its annual Organizational Meeting last month, and Jeff Dornbusch, Jamie Tooman and Kim Dusseau were sworn in to their new terms as Board Members by Treasurer Cajon Keeton. Heather Dewitz was unanimously elected as serve as Board President, and Kim Dusseau elected as Vice-President.

Dr. Guy Parmigian thanked the Board for their service as January is Board of Education Recognition Month. Dr. Parmigian noted that “school board members volunteer hundreds of hours and an immeasurable amount of energy to ensure that our schools are providing the best education possible for the children of our community.”

The District Highlight for January was the Oak Harbor High School Student Council. The Council discussed their activities and fundraising for charity, and discussed the “Principal Listening Sessions” they have with Principal Cheryl Schell to solve problems and discuss mutual concerns to improve the educational experience for all students.

The Board approved Emma Bergman and Erin Hagelberger as Certified Substitute Teachers, and Nancy Wasserman as a Classified Substitute employee for the 2021-2022 school year. Also approved was Sydney Overmyer as Lifeguard for the adult swim program, which begins Jan. 24 from 8-9 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays. If school is canceled or delayed, there will be no adult swim.

Donations were accepted from Jacki and Mike Gezo for $250 to be used for District Expenses, and from WeFund4u in the amount of $7,221 to benefit the 7th grade team account.

The February Board of Education Meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 4:45 p.m. at the Board of Education Office, 11685 W. State Route 163, Oak Harbor.
