PORT CLINTON – The Musical Arts Series in Port Clinton will present the Verona Quartet of Oberlin College and Conservatory as the finale to a very successful season. They will appear on April 27 at 3:30 p.m., in the intimate venue of Firelands Presbyterian Church, located at 2626 E. Harbor Rd. in Port Clinton.

This is a rare opportunity for the Port Clinton community to see this internationally recognized quartet. The Verona Quartet has firmly established itself among the most distinguished ensembles on the chamber music scene today. They earned Chamber Music America’s coveted 2020 Cleveland Quartet Award and developed a reputation for excellence in performance and entertainment. The Quartet serves on the faculty of Oberlin College and Conservatory as the Quartet-in-Residence and as Artistic Directors at Nova Scotia’s Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance. They have captivated audiences across four continents at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institution, Jordan Hall (Boston), Wigmore Hall (London, U.K.) and Melbourne Recital Hall (Australia.)

Continuing in the lineage of their esteemed mentors – the Cleveland, Juilliard and Pacifica Quartets – the Verona Quartet’s rapid rise to international prominence was fueled by top prize wins at the Wigmore Hall, Melbourne, M-Prize and Osaka International Chamber Music Competitions. The ensemble’s vibrant performances emanate from the spirit of storytelling; the Quartet believes that this transcends genre and therefore the name “Verona” pays tribute to William Shakespeare, one of the greatest storytellers of all time.

Members of the quartet are Jonathan Ong, violin; Dorothy Ro, violin; Abigail Rojansky, viola; and Jonathan Dormand, cello. They will begin their performance with music by Duke Ellington followed by works by George Gershwin, Dmitri Shostakovich, Vincent Youmans and Maurice Ravel.
