CATAWBA ISLAND – The Catawba Island Historical Society (CIHS) will conduct both its annual membership meeting and fall cultural lecture on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Catawba Island Township Community Hall located at 3307 NW Catawba Rd. in Port Clinton. The membership meeting is for CIHS members only and begins at 5:30 p.m. The speech is open to the public and will start at 6 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

The lecture will feature regional, Emmy-nominated author Jennifer Boresz Engelking. Her presentation is titled, “Spooky Stories from Lake Erie’s Past.”

Jennifer Boresz Engelking grew up in Northeast Ohio and is drawn to stories of Lake Erie, particularly little-known tales of shipwrecks and legends. She has written five books, including “Lost Lake Erie,” published by The History Press in 2023, and “Hidden History of Lake Erie,” which will be published Oct. 28. Her work often includes stories about Catawba and the Lake Erie Islands.

Before becoming an author, she worked as a broadcast reporter at CBS stations in Erie, PA, and Toledo and wrote and produced historical documentaries for PBS. She even once played a reporter in the movie “Unstoppable,” directed by Tony Scott.
