Western Lake Erie perch fishermen have been consistently putting jumbos in the cooler this fall.
Walleye have been hitting pretty good on Lake Erie this week about five miles offshore between Huron and Vermillion. That is when the winds and waves were favorable and you could make it out.
Walleye fishermen are are transitioning from harness rigs and spoons to crank baits this past week. This does not mean you can’t catch them on spoons and harnesses. A few guys are still getting nice fish with them.
Dead Eye Baby’s are producing nice walleye running them behind Dipsy Divers and Tru-Trips diving planers 50 feet back. Dead Eye Deeps have been on fire this week, running 70 to 120 back without weights. The shore bite is starting pick up for the walleye, as well. Start checking the piers and breakwalls, mainly casting shallow crank baits.
Yellow perch fishing has been hanging in there, as well, and some really nice sized fish are being caught. Quality is amazing right now with the size. Not limits of perch, but the jumbo size of some of the perch makes up for that. The best spot has been anchoring off of the Marblehead Lighthouse in 25 feet of water. They are using a single hook with a sliding egg sinker.
As we all know, this time of the year is the Fall Brawl season, and Bays Edge Bait and Tackle is a weigh station this year for the popular walleye fishing derby. I’ve joined the crowd of fishermen who will be fishing the Brawl, so look for more reports to come. I will be out every day, weather permitting. Bring those big fish to be weighed in to Bays Edge Bait and Tackle.
