Firelands offers mental health first aid training in Port Clinton

Firelands Regional Medical Center will be offering a mental health first aid training class to help educate the community on how to assist someone who is developing a mental health problem, or someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis.

This training is open to the public and residents of Ottawa County. Firelands encourages those who may be caring for, or know of, a loved one with mental health issues to register. Laura Miller, LISW-S and Lauren Robinson, LPCC-S, from Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services will provide you with:

  • Risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems
  • Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis and addiction disorders
  • A 5-step action plan to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or is in crisis
  • Where to turn for help — professional, peer and self-help resources

The class will take place Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services office, 335 Buckeye Rd., Port Clilnton. Enter through the left entrance of the building.

There is no cost to participate, however, registration is required by Friday, Jan. 25 by calling 419-734-2942.  A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The Mental Health First Aid program is sponsored through funding provided by the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Erie and Ottawa Counties.
