Firelands School of Nursing is now accepting applicants for the 2024-2025 school year.
SANDUSKY — Have you always dreamed of being a nurse? Maybe you know someone who is interested in pursuing a career in nursing. The enrollment process for Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing is now open for the 2024-2025 school year.
The school offers students the opportunity to pursue a registered nurse (RN) diploma or transition from a licensed practical nurse (LPN) to an RN.
“Our nursing programs are hospital-based and uniquely provide an educational experience that prepares graduates for today’s nursing workforce,” said Director of Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing Dawn Wikel. Students will also earn college credit through a partnership with Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Firelands College. Graduates can join the workforce in as little as two to three years, compared to a four-year degree, and can seamlessly transition to a bachelor-prepared nurse after one year of RN to BSN coursework with our partners at BGSU.
Nursing offers a variety of career opportunities and nurses are in great demand. According to BLS.gov, “About 203,200 openings for registered nurses are projected each year, on average.”
Firelands Health offers networking, job opportunities and financial support to currently enrolled students and graduates of this program. Wikel explained, “Many of our graduates stay in the area to continue working at the medical center and support the local community.”
Dating back to 1905, Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing, previously known as Providence Hospital School of Nursing, has a long-standing reputation for excellence in nursing education. The school of nursing is located in Sandusky at Firelands South Campus on Hayes Avenue and is ranked the best nursing program in our regional service area.
Wikel went on to say, “Firelands’ students receive individualized attention and significant hands-on experience in the clinical environment.” Clinical rotations include working in a variety of nursing units and departments in addition to interacting with patients, nurses and other healthcare professionals at the medical center.
