The Firelands Symphony Orchestra (FSO), under the direction of Carl Topilow, presents their season finale concert “Violin Virtuosity” on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Sawmill Creek Convention Center. The concert will feature the full orchestra and renowned guest violinist Steven Greenman.

General admission tickets are available at or by calling the FSO office at 419-621-4800 on Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adult tickets are $30, and student tickets for youth and college students are free.

Described by the Washington Post as “particularly impressive” and “extraordinary” by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, guest violinist Steven Greenman is a consummate musical artist as a violinist, composer and educator. He is a masterful violin soloist with symphony orchestras, a soulful performer of klezmer music, and a virtuoso performer of East European folk music. Steven’s influential recordings, klezmer music compositions and dedicated master classes have been internationally acclaimed.

For this concert, Greenman will perform a series of pieces by Eastern European composers and pieces with Eastern European roots, including selections by legendary violinist David Rubinoff, John Williams’ haunting “Theme from Schindler’s List,” and Williams’ Oscar winning adaptation of the score for the movie version of “Fiddler on the Roof.”

In a concert with a mix of pops and classical works, the full orchestra will be highlighting other colorful and exciting pieces by Czech, Rumanian, Ukrainian and Russian composers with performances of works by Smetana, Dvorak, Enesco, Gliere and more. Highlights include Dvorak’s “Carnival Overture” and the highly recognizable “Hungarian Dance No. 5” by Brahms.

“The Firelands Symphony Orchestra is delighted to welcome back violin virtuoso Steven Greenman, last heard with the orchestra several years ago in a performance of “The Butterfly Lover’s Concerto,” based on a Chinese folk legend. All the composers featured in this concert wrote highly descriptive music – for our concert, a carnival, a river and music for dance,” Music Director and Conductor Carl Topilow said.

This concert is made possible with sponsorship from Randolph J. & Estelle M. Dorn Foundation, Sam S. & Rose Stein Foundation, Sidney Frohman Foundation, Sandusky Concert Association, Erie County Community Foundation and Ohio Arts Council.
