A Rededication Service to celebrate the 200th year of the Marblehead Lighthouse will be held at First United Church of Christ-Congregational at 802 Prairie St., Marblehead on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 10:30 a.m.

This unique once-in-a-lifetime church service will feature special music, displays, hymns and prayers, all pertaining to the lighthouse and the Point Marblehead Lifesaving Station that was founded in 1876.

First UCC began as a Congregational Church in 1873 and has a special connection to several of the lightkeepers and brave mariners who manned the lighthouse and the lifesaving station. The lighthouse was completed on Nov. 10, 1821, and first lit in 1822.

This event will kick-off a year-long celebration all over the Marblehead Peninsula to honor the lighthouse and its keepers. Specially invited guests include local and state officials, the U.S. Coast Guard at the Marblehead Station who maintain the light, local Ohio Department of Natural Resources officials who maintain the grounds and the many volunteers and members of the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Masks are encouraged, but not required.
