First United Church to host Blessing of Animals

First United Church of Christ Congregational in Marblehead invites all God’s creatures — humans and their beloved pets, in particular — to an outdoor Blessing of the Animals outdoors in front of the church at 802 Prairie Street on Monday, Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m.

In the Christian tradition, October 4 is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, commemorating his life of service to God and neighbor and recalling his great love for the environment–especially for animals. The Blessing will include a short service of praise and prayer, followed by a time of individual blessing for each animal present.

In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved into the church sanctuary.
