Playmakers Civic Theatre is bringing PG-13 fun and laughter to the stage with the comedy, “Four Old Broads,” by Leslie Kimbell. Performances will be held on March 8-10 and 15-17.

“It’s the story of four old broads living in a retirement home who become good friends,” said director Matt Parker. “They decide to take a vacation on a cruise line, and they find out the administrator of the place is a crook.”

The comedy throws in a little mystery, a little adventure and an energetic, hip-shaking Elvis impersonator.

“He’s a pretty funny guy,” Parker said.

Although “Four Old Broads” is not a risqué play, Parker calls it a “mature comedy” for ages 13 and up.

“It’s definitely PG-13 because of language. There are some shenanigans, but it’s not a farce. There are not any scantily-clad ladies in it, but it has quite a lot of spicy language.”

The play, Parker says, also has a lot of laughs. The script was so popular that many women auditioned to be an “old broad.”

“About 15 women turned out for the auditions. That’s quite a lot for our theater,” Parker said. “We had some 80-year-olds wanting to be involved, but they didn’t audition for the big parts. We’re going to use a couple of them in a Bingo scene. They loved the play and wanted to have a part.”

Tabitha Loroff serves as assistant director of “Four Old Broads.” The cast includes Margaret Helbing as Beatrice Shelton, Peggy McConnell as Eaddy Mae Clayton, Janet Wittenmyer as Imogen Fletcher, Sylvia Chappell as Maude Jenkins, Rich Riedmaier as Sam Smith, Trish McCartney as Pat Jones, and Margaret Lenthe as Ruby Sue Bennett.

Friday and Saturday performances of Four Old Broads start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. To reserve tickets, visit www.pcplaymakers.org.
