The Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation, Inc. awarded scholarships totaling more than $44,000 at Genoa High School’s Honors Award Program.

The Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation, Inc. awarded scholarships totaling more than $44,000 at Genoa High School’s Honors Award Program last week to students graduating from the Genoa Area Local Schools.

The Scholarship Foundation was organized in 1991 as a public charitable organization created by the citizens of our community to improve the opportunity for a quality education to graduating seniors. In 2019, a total of 72 scholarships were awarded to 45 seniors, ranging from $300 to $2,000. The scholarships included four-year renewable scholarship at $1,000 per year; four scholarships of $2,000 each; one second-year renewable scholarship of $2,000; six scholarships of $1,000; and 17 scholarships of $500 or more.

There are currently 40 individual scholarship funds that offered 55 scholarships in 2019. Another 17 scholarships were given by various individuals, businesses and organizations in conjunction with the Foundation
Over the past five years, the Foundation has distributed 319 scholarships. In 2019 it added one new scholarship. The various scholarship funds in the Foundation total over $850,000 and continue to grow due to a community program funded by caring, helpful and thoughtful individuals, along with local businesses and community clubs, who support Genoa Schools.

These organizations/trusts are affiliated with the Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation, but their scholarships are not funded by the Foundation.

Contributions to various scholarship funds can be made through gifts, honorariums, memorials and wills. Gifts of money or stock may be designated to create a new scholarship or to the principal of an existing scholarship fund. Many graduating classes, along with the alumni reunions, have considered this an important endeavor and have given remaining monies to a scholarship fund.
