Genoa topples Port Clinton in opener, 53-45

The Genoa Comets Boys started the basketball season on a winning note on Friday, Dec. 1, defeating Port Clinton 53-45. The non-conference game would see the Redskins with the early lead over the first three quarter, but Genoa’s 6-foot 7 sophomore Walter Plantz would score nine of his 25 points in the fourth quarter and would add 14 rebounds.

The Comets tackle Oak Harbor on Friday, Dec. 8.

The Genoa Girls Varsity season started on Nov. 28 against the Woodmore Wildcats, and the Comets won a close one, 46-45. On Friday Dec. 1, the Comets opened Northern Buckeye Conference play on the road against Eastwood. The Eagles managed to overcome a double-digit deficit in a come from behind victory, 44 -42. Eastwood senior guard Kayla Buehler had seven rebounds and five steals.

The Genoa girls play Oak Harbor on Thursday Dec. 7, and on Saturday, Dec. 9, will visit The Otsego Knights.
