GRANDlove, an outreach program of the Ottawa County Family Advocacy Center in Port Clinton, hosted a focus group for grandfamilies recently. Senator Theresa Gavarone, Representative D.J. Swearingen Jr., Ottawa County Commissioners and members of the Ottawa County Family Advocacy Board heard about the challenges grandparents, and other adults, face when they step up to raise children because parents are unable to do so. Topics included the need for ongoing support groups for grandfamilies, support for traumatized children, respite care, housing concerns, legal expenses, and financial support. GRANDlove estimates that there are over 225 families in Ottawa County who would benefit from the agency’s services and invites any interested adults to contact GRANDlove at 419-301-0225 for more information.
