For the second year, Crown Battery and Hal and Diane Hawk want to honor local veterans with a free Veterans Day Lunch. Any veteran and a family member or friend can enjoy a free meal provided by the heralded Bistro 163 in Port Clinton. The Veterans Day Lunch will be held on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Jet Express Island Port Bar & Grill by the Port Clinton drawbridge from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Diane brought the idea to us and asked if we could do the food,” said General Manager Babs Klacik of Bistro 163.
The focus of the event is to honor and thank local veterans by bringing them together to enjoy a meal and music. When Klacik learned that some local, long-term healthcare facilities are not yet engaging in events outside their buildings, she opted to provide delivery of meals to their residents.
Nursing homes interested in receiving lunches for their veterans on Nov. 11 should call Bistro 163 at 419-734-9887.
“But Diane Hawk really wants to stress coming and sitting down and being together, if possible,” Klacik said.
About 40 volunteers will help at the luncheon, including members of Port Clinton High School Leadership Council. There is no registration for the event. Veterans are welcome to simply show up and enjoy lunch.
“We served about 100 people last year,” Klacik said. “This year, Diane really wants to make it bigger. We’re hoping to get the word out, so the turnout is good.”
