Hannelore Paula Knorn was born on June 11, 1931 in Essen, Germany. She spent her childhood with eight siblings surviving as best they could through the great depression. She spent her teen years in war torn Germany and her early adult years under the American occupation. Looking for a brighter future, she and her brother Willie followed their older sister Else to America in 1956.
Fate would bring them to Oak Harbor where Hanna held various jobs before becoming owner and General Manager of the Port Clinton Golf Club. Hanna did everything needed to maintain and manage the course during the season, opening the course at dawn and returning home after the last golfer left at dusk. In 2006, she sold the property to Ducks Unlimited as a nature preserve and visited periodically to enjoy the fields of wildflowers that now cover the property.
In November of 2020, Hanna was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and spent the remainder of her days at home under the care of her niece, Diane. She had hoped to reach her ninetieth birthday but passed peacefully on April 1 at the age of eighty-nine.
Hanna was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Oswald Knorn & Anna (Gomann) Knorn; and siblings Anne Ohlman, Else Knorn, Klara Fleischer, Heinz Knorn, Oswald Knorn, Robert Knorn and Willie Knorn.
She is survived by her niece Diane (Rozkrut) Kaiser of Chicago; brother, Hermie of Essen Germany and a multitude of nieces and nephews, all of Essen. Hanna’s remains will be interred in Essen, Germany following a family ceremony later this year. Donations in her memory can be made to the cause of your choice. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Oak Harbor is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
