MARBLEHEAD – One of the area’s biggest advocates for senior health and wellness, Angie Schroeder, wants to expand her business so she can serve more seniors with chronic diseases, but she needs the public’s help. Schroeder entered the Ms. Health & Fitness competition and has reached the quarter semifinals. If she gets enough public votes and eventually wins the competition, Schroeder will use her $20,000 winnings to open a bigger fitness studio to accommodate more seniors.

Schroeder has impacted many seniors at Otterbein Marblehead, where she coaches the LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors and operates the Rock Steady Boxing of Ottawa County program for people with Parkinson’s Disease. She also operates the Rock Steady Boxing program at the Fremont YMCA and owns a fitness studio in Fremont.

“I would use the prize money to lease a building big enough for my Parkinson’s program, as well as train active older adults, at a no cost or donation-only basis,” she said. “In addition, I would use the rest of the money to obtain additional knowledge in training individuals with special needs and chronic diseases in this same building.”

The public can help Schroeder reach her goal of opening a bigger studio by voting for her online. Voting is free, and supporters can choose to buy extra votes. Money raised from the votes of all contestants will be donated to the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, a nonprofit that fights childhood cancer.

Voting for the quarterfinals ends March 19. If Schroeder receives enough votes to advance to the next stage, she will continue with the hope of becoming Ms. Health and Fitness. The winner will be announced in April.

Rock Steady Boxing is a national, non-contact program created to help people with Parkinson’s Disease live fuller, more independent lives.
