Each spring on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, the Catawba Island Garden Club holds its popular plant sale, with herbs, vegetables and flowers featured this year on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The club, founded in 1933, hosts the highly popular annual event at John Braun Park at 2280 NE Catawba Road.

“This year’s event will again be a delight for browsers and buyers,” said President Dorthy Baker. “Show Chairman Judy Peters and her team have done an amazing job of planning and preparing for the sale.

“Our fresh herb and vegetable plants have been quite popular in the past, so we have focused on making more of them available. Flowers will include annuals and perennials, some from our club members’ gardens and some generously donated by local greenhouses.

“Our members have also created great Mother’s Day gifts.”

While shopping at the sale, be sure to purchase raffle tickets for one of the club’s many gift baskets. Local greenhouses, individuals and community businesses have donated items to create spectacular baskets.

The basket drawing will be held at 1 p.m. and you do not need to be present to win.

The Catawba Island Garden Club is also selling raffle tickets for a unique fundraiser, thanks to the generosity of the Stouffer family of the Catawba Island Club. Jim Stouffer and his family have donated a round of golf for four at CIC’s Arthur Hills Course, which includes lunch. The other raffle is for Sunday Brunch for eight at CIC, followed by a cruise of the Lake Erie Islands on the well-appointed ’73 Gemini yacht.

Raffle tickets for these prizes can be purchased the day of the plant sale or from any garden club member. The drawing will be held on Thursday, June 1.

The Catawba Island Garden Club members would like to thank all the individuals and businesses who donated plants and prizes to this year’s sale. All proceeds from the sale and raffles are used for numerous projects in the community, as well as state-of-the-art benches placed around Catawba Island and the Port Clinton area.
