Ottawa County Senior Resources is recognizing its drivers who delivered senior meals to throughout the year, designating May as Home Delivery Meal Driver Month.
The mission of the Home Delivered Meals program in Ottawa County is to provide nutritious meals, wellness checks and caring contact to homebound seniors. These services are so important to seniors as home delivered meal drivers are sometimes the only daily face-to-face interaction that some of them have.
“Delivering meals provides an excellent opportunity for us to check on the well being of our seniors,” said Dianne Martin Mortensen, Director of Ottawa County Senior Resources.
Ottawa County Senior Resources has chosen May as Home Delivery Meal Driver Month, and will be honoring all of its Home Delivered Meal Program staff during the month. This includes the program’s Drivers, Meal Packers, Office personnel and volunteers. Senior Resources is excited to celebrate the entire team’s efforts and thank them for keeping our county seniors safe and well-fed throughout the entire Covid-19 crisis.
“The Home Delivered Meal Drivers do so much more than just deliver a meal, especially during the pandemic,” said Mortensen. “Along with checking on the seniors daily, they help to make sure our seniors have the items they needed, such as toilet paper, soap, masks, hand sanitizers, sanitizer wipes, and extra food. Despite this pandemic and all of its restrictions, the Drivers provided daily interaction, even if from a distance.”
