The Humane Society of Ottawa County has made it easy to donate to its shelter this   holiday season by placing Giving Trees in three local locations; Bassett’s Market, 3994 East Harbor Rd., Port Clinton; Mutach’s Food Market, 8037 East Harbor Rd., Marblehead; and Miller’s New Market, 22361 West Holt Harris Rd., Genoa.

The 6-foot Christmas trees have paper ornaments printed with items needed at the Humane Society. Shoppers take an ornament off the tree, purchase the item listed and return the item to the store. A box is provided with the tree for these donations. Items needed include dog and cat food, paper towels, cleaning supplies, pet toys and gas cards.

Some ornaments list monetary donations to pay for a dog or cat spay/neuter, veterinary tests, vaccinations or adoption fees. These monetary donations can be mailed to the Humane Society using a self-addressed envelope attached to the ornament.

The Humane Society will also host a benefit Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 900 Jefferson St., Port Clinton. An assortment of homemade cookies, cookie bars, candies, breads and other baked goods will be sold for $5 per pound. There will be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction.

Donations of baked goods for the Cookie Walk are being accepted. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter located at 2424 E. Sand Rd., Port Clinton or at the church the morning of the Cookie Walk.

If you have any questions, contact the shelter at 419-734-5191 or email at
