The August calendar for all locations of the Ida Rupp Public Library includes a wide range of events and activities for both young and old, from outer space to a big book sale, the Olympics and stuffed animal sleepover.
The Erie Island Branch will feature kite flying at the Perry Monument. The Marblehead Peninsula Branch welcomes A Writer’s Life Q&A, the Pulitzer Prize Book Club and walking tours of Clemons Cemetery and Downtown Marblehead.

Thursday, Aug. 5
Friends of the Ida Rupp Public Library Book Sale, Ida Rupp Public Library, 10:00 – 7:00; Adults. The book sale is open to the general public! Lots of great books available for all ages. The sale will be held in the Library’s Community Room near the Third St. entrance.
Stuffed Animal Sleepover, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6:30 – 7:30; Children. Kids and their adults visit the library for a quick craft activity and a special story time with one of their favorite stuffed animals. Once the story time is finished, the kids leave their stuffed animals behind at the library to enjoy a fun sleepover! The next morning the kids and their beloved stuffed animals are reunited at 10:30 for a yummy breakfast and slideshow of the animal adventures from the night before. Registration is required for this program.
Friday, Aug. 6
Friends of the Ida Rupp Public Library Book Sale, Ida Rupp Public Library, 10:00 – 1:00; Adults. The book sale wraps up today but be sure to stop by as it is $5 Bag Day. Pay just $5 for all the books you can fit in the bag! The sale will be held in the Library’s Community Room near the Third St. entrance.
Monday, Aug. 9
COSI Connects: Learning Lunchbox Space Edition Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Children. The Marblehead Branch has partnered with the State of Ohio and COSI to bring hands on learning to our community. This box is full of experiences designed to engage learners of all ages! All the supplies and instructions are included in each Space themed STEM kit. These kits are sure to feed your mind! Stop in and pick up your free kit while supplies last!

Kite Flying Day at Perry’s Monument, sponsored by Erie Islands Library; Looking for something to do before school starts? Come to the plaza of Perry’s International Peace Memorial for an opportunity to fly a kite that you decorate. Let’s hope the wind is with us! We will supply a kite kit that you can decorate with your own design.
Thursday, Aug. 12
Teen Powder Paint Party, Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton; 3:00 – 4:00. Teens in grades 6-12, let’s have a blast using colored powder paint while playing the popular game Tag! Please remember to wear clothing that you don’t mind if it gets stained, dirty, or otherwise damaged. Each teen will get a bag of colored powder paint to throw at each other.
Pulitzer Prize Book Club, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 4:00 – 5:00; Adults. Have you ever read a Pulitzer Prize winning book? Now is your chance to read one and discuss it with a lively group! This month the group will discuss the winner from 1950: The Way West by A.B. Guthrie.
Downtown Marblehead Walking Tour, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6:30 – 8:00; Adults. Are you interested in learning more about the beginnings of Marblehead? Come join us for a walking tour full of interesting facts and stories right down Main Street. This tour is approximately 1.5 miles and takes about an hour. The terrain covered includes sidewalks and paved streets. Group size is limited to 9 and registration is required.
Saturday, Aug. 14
Clemons Cemetery Walking Tour, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 9:30 – 11:00; Adults. Join us for our NEW walking tour. This tour takes place on the grounds of Clemons Cemetery (91 East Main Street, Marblehead, OH) and will educate each participant about Clemons Cemetery, its interred, and cemetery restoration and preservation. The terrain of the cemetery is unlevel grass. The tour will last about an hour. This tour will be open to 8 participants and registration is required.
Matinee Movie: Tom and Jerry Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 12:00 – 2:00; All ages. Come and cool off at the library! We will be showing Tom & Jerry live action movie. Popcorn and drinks provided!

Searching for Summer Puzzle Pack, Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton. Searching for summer fun? Enjoy these word puzzles while you’re relaxing in the sun. Turn in your completed pack by August 31st to enter to win a gift card.
Story Time on the Island, hosted by Erie Islands Library; 11:00 – 12:00; Children. J Join Librarian Karen Wilhelm for a half hour of reading, song and a craft to take home. Family fun at the Lake Erie Islands Nature Center back porch! Parents and caregivers are asked to stay with their children.

Paper Bead Jewelry, Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton; Adults, 11:00 – 12:00. Come join us to make paper bead jewelry! Follow along as we show the steps in making paper beads to create bracelets, necklaces, tassel bookmarks, and more! This is an eco-friendly and cost-efficient alternative to making jewelry. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. All supplies provided.
Wednesday, Aug. 18
Totally Tie-Dyed, Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton; All ages, 2:00 – 3:00. Join us in the green space behind the library to do some totally tubular tie-dying! Bring your own t-shirt or other item to tie-dye. The library will provide bandanas to tie-dye as well. All ages are welcome! In case of rain, the event will be held in the Community Room.
Words & Wine Book Club, at Duff Vineyards hosted by Erie Islands Library; 5:30 – 6:30; Adults. Share a book you have read all while enjoying a beverage of your own choosing. Even if you haven’t had time to read, you are welcome to join us to hear what others are suggesting.
