Thursday December 1

DIY Magic Wands (Grab & Go), Ida Rupp Public Library; Teens. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to grab a kit to make a magic wand. While supplies last.

Mystery Book Discussion, Ida Rupp Public Library; 10 – 11 a.m.; Adults. Join us at Ida Rupp to discuss The Twelve Jays of Christmas by Donna Andrews. Copies of the book will be available beginning November 4.

Let It Snow, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3 – 4:30 p.m.; Children. It’s a banner year for Christmas crafts! These craft kits are awesome crafts that get kids excited about winter. Easy to make, they’re awesome handmade gifts that little ones can give to friends and family during the holiday season.

Monday December 5

Grab & Go Craft Kit – Glitter Vase, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Adults. Grab & Go craft for adults is an easy Christmas glitter centerpiece to make your holiday or holiday party look fabulous. In this kit is everything you will need to make this centerpiece or decoration for anywhere in your home. Available while supplies last!

Books & Brews, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6:30 – 8 p.m.; Adults. Visit Wee Willies to talk about your new & old favorite titles! Each month we also have a genre goal. For this meeting, we have decided to read a book that makes you smile.

Tuesday December 6

Kids Art Hour – Magic Watercolor Snowflakes, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3:30 – 4:30; Children. Drop in from 3:30 – 4:30 on the 1st Tuesday of each month to make some process art! Process art focuses on the act of creating art instead of the end result. No two pieces of art will be the same! This month we’ll be making magic watercolor snowflakes! All children age 12 and under are welcome with a parent or guardian. Art is messy! Old clothes are recommended.

We will have all the supplies you will need to create your own design. It would be helpful if you look online for some ideas beforehand. Pinterest could be helpful. We can’t wait to see what your designs look.

Art of Beadworking, Ida Rupp Public Library; 4 – 5 p.m.; Adults and Teens. Adults & teens in grades 6-12 are invited to come to the library to see a live torch in action! JoAnn Lawrence with LanFord BeadWorks will be here to demonstrate her mastered art of beadworking. Beadworking is the art of creating unique glass beads.

Gift Wrapping Station, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Adults. We will have a gift-wrapping station available during normal business hours this week. We’ll provide wrapping paper, ribbons, tape, and labels for you to use in wrapping your presents. Please DO NOT drop off gifts to be wrapped.

Preschool Story Time, Erie Islands Library; 10:30 – 11 a.m.; Children. Join Librarian Karen Wilhelm for a half hour of reading, song and a craft to take home. Parents and caregivers are asked to stay with their children.

Scavenger Hunt: Build a Gingerbread House, Erie Islands Library; 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.; All ages. In conjunction with the Lake Erie Islands Nature & Wildlife Center, there will be a Gingerbread House contest. In order to participate in this contest/scavenger hunt, you must sign up online or at the library by Wednesday, December 7th to ensure enough ingredients are on hand. On this date, Monday, December 12th at 3:30 pm, a scavenger hunt will be held to find the components to assemble the gingerbread house. Starting point is the library. Houses will be assembled in the privacy of your own home after completion of the scavenger hunt. Completed houses must be turned in to the library by 8 am on Friday, December 16th. Judging will be at the school or library later that day.

Wednesday December 14

Maiden Voyage of the Onward, Ida Rupp Public Library; 5 – 6 p.m.; Adults. In 1890, Scott J. Matthews founded the Matthews Boat Company in Bascom, Ohio. Businessmen convinced Matthews to relocate to Port Clinton where there was East Coast access necessary for building and marketing larger boats. In 1906, he designed and built Onward, a 70-foot luxurious yacht that would make history. Matthews and a few others, including his family, traveled on a year-long trip, covering 9,000 miles on what is known as the “Great Loop.” Join us as Bob Reynolds, grandson of Scott J. Matthews, shows the documentary film “The Maiden Voyage of Onward.” The documentary shows photo documentation and discusses Matthews account of his trip down the Mississippi and eventually through the Erie Canal as it returned to Lake Erie.

Intro to Comedy, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3 – 4 p.m.; Teens. Enjoy comedy or want to be a comedian? Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to enjoy a few jokes, tips, and tricks from comedian Jon Ruggiero. Jon has a wide variety of acting experience, including performing for trading card players after a tournament, families at a baby shower, and senior citizens at a retirement home. Jon is also a room designer for an escape room company. Stay tuned for Jon’s return!

Grab & Go Craft Kit – Pinecone Crafts, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Children. Grab & Go craft for children is a pinecone ornament and a pinecone bird feeder. These are super easy and look amazing. In this kit are things to make both of these crafts–except for the hot glue. ALLERGY NOTE: The kit includes peanut butter (for the bird feeder). Available while supplies last!

Unwind at the library and enjoy the holiday season as this musical group performs a variety of holiday and light classics including everything from Leroy Anderson’s “Sleighride” to portions of Handel’s “Messiah.” All ages welcome.
