Ida Rupp Library hours, programs change in September

The Ida Rupp Libraries have much to look forward to as area children head back to school, and the adult book clubs begin to gather once again at the Port Clinton, Marblehead and Erie Islands branches.

The early September calendar for all locations of the Ida Rupp Public Library includes the following:

Wednesday, Sept. 1

Animal Snack Cup Take and Make, Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton; Children. Whooo’s ready for a fun craft!? This month you can make an owl or fox snack cup! Pick up a kit at the library with all the supplies you need.

Grab & Go Kit for Kids: Paper Spinner, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Children. This Grab and Go kit gives hours of entertainment to kids of all ages.  Pick up your kit while supplies last.

Thursday, Sept. 2

Mystery Book Discussion, Ida Rupp Public Library; 7– 8 p.m.; Adults. Mystery book discussion is back. We’ll kick back off with The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Copies of the book available.

Monday, Sept. 6

All locations closed for Labor Day

Tuesday, Sept. 7

New hours begin for Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton. The library will be open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The hours for Erie Islands Library and Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library remain the same and can be found on our website.

Friends of the Library Ice Cream Social, Ida Rupp Public Library; 5– 7 p.m.; All Ages. Let’s celebrate 45 years of supporting the Ida Rupp Public Library. Join us for music, prizes, and local authors.

Hot Wheels Night, Erie Islands Library; 4– 5 p.m.; Children. Looking for something to do after school with your friends?  Join us at the library to design your own Hot Wheel race track.  We have everything needed:  tracks, connectors, cars. Snack will be served.

Wednesday, Sept. 8

Sand Art Bottles, Ida Rupp Public Library; 4– 5 p.m.; Children. Drop in for some end of summer sand art fun. Fill a seashell bottle with as many colors of sand as you like to create a colorful piece of art to take home.

Sand Art Picture, Ida Rupp Public Library; 6-7 p.m.; Adults. Join us at the library to make beautiful art with sand. Pick one option from several different pictures to trace on your paper, add glue, then sprinkle sand to fill in your design. Repeat until the entire picture has been completed.

Thursday, Sept. 9

Pulitzer Prize Book Club, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 4– 5 p.m.; Adults. This month the group will discuss the winner from 1976, Humboldt’s Gift by Saul Bellow.

Monday, Sept. 13

Books & Brews Book Club, Jamestown Tavern patio hosted by Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6:30 – 8 p.m.; Adults. Before our meeting, pick a book with a blue cover.

Stay at Home Movie Night, Come to the library and check out one of our ‘Let’s Stay In’ movie bundles. We will provide a movie – “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” a bag of popcorn, all the props, and a couple munchies for up to four moviegoers.

Tuesday, Sept. 14

Tales for Tots with Miss Kristen, Ida Rupp Public Library; 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.; Children. Join Miss Kristen for stories, songs and playtime at the library.

Lampworking: Art of Making Glass Beads, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3– 4 p.m.; Teens. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to come to the library to see a live torch in action. The beautiful art form of lampworking, the art of making glass beads, will be demonstrated by local artist Jo Lawrence.

Euchre Club, Ida Rupp Public Library; 6- 7:45 p.m.; Adults. Join us for fun evening of Euchre. New members are always welcome.

Downtown Marblehead Walking Tour, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 9:30 – 11 a.m.; Adults. Are you interested in learning more about the beginnings of Marblehead?  Come join us for a walking tour full of interesting facts and stories right down Main Street.

Wednesday, Sept. 15

Bucketnaut Productions: Marlee Carpenter and Tyler Sevino, Ida Rupp Public Library; 6– 7 p.m.; Adults. Do you love indie films? Now is your chance to meet a local production company who just wrapped up a feature film. Come join us at the library as Actress/Producer Marlee Carpenter and Actor/Writer/Director Tyler Savino discuss their film The Cran and other upcoming projects.

Felted Wool Cozy, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Adults. Get ready for fall with this adorable felted animal coffee cup cozy.  This Grab and Go Craft requires the use of a hot glue gun. If you do not have one, feel free to use the space we have set up in Meeting Room B to complete your craft.

Words & Wine Book Club, hosted by Erie Islands Library; 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.; Adults. Share a book you have read all while enjoying a beverage of your own choosing.  Even if you haven’t had time to read, you are welcome to join us to hear what others are suggesting.
