Thursday June 1

Mystery Book Discussion, Ida Rupp Public Library; 10 – 11 a.m.; Adults. June’s Mystery Book Discussion is Counterfeit by Kristin Chen. Registration is not required and new members are always welcome! Copies of the book will be available following the May 4 discussion.

Summer Reading Kickoff Circus @The District, Ida Rupp Public Library; 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.; All Ages. Visit downtown Port Clinton for this year’s Summer Reading Kickoff with the Birds Eye View Circus! Enjoy acts such as juggling, hula hooping, balance, and more! No registration required.

Downtown Marblehead Walking Tour, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6 – 7 p.m.; All Ages. Visit Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library to learn more about the beginnings of Marblehead. Join us for a walking tour full of interesting facts & stories right down Main Street. This tour is approximately 1.5 miles & takes about an hour. The terrain covered includes sidewalks and paved streets. No registration required. Just show up wearing your walking shoes!

Summer Reading Kickoff, Erie Islands Library; 5 – 6:30 p.m.; All Ages. It’s time for SUMMER READING to begin! Help us to kick-off “All Together Now” by joining us at the library for hot dogs and cookies. Come see what we have on the agenda for this summer and to see the great things happening at our unique library. We love our patrons! No registration required.

Friday June 2

Puzzle Pandemonium, Ida Rupp Public Library; 2 – 3 p.m.; All Ages. Visit the library to compete in a fun puzzle competition! Use your teamwork skills to compete a 250-300 piece puzzle in teams of up to 4 people. The team who completes the puzzle the fastest will receive a prize. No registration required. Puzzles are available first come, first served, so arrive early to guarantee your spot.

Saturday June 3

Fossil Mining @Portage River Paddling Company, Ida Rupp Public Library; 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.; All Ages. Drop-in between 11:00 am – 12:00 pm to mine for fossils and shark teeth that you get to take home! After mining, you’ll have the chance to explore and check out the various animals on the property. First come, first served. While supplies last. No registration required. In case of rain, this event will be canceled.

Sensory Garden Planting, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.; All Ages. Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library is joining up with the Village of Marblehead to plant the new Sensory Garden at James Park in Marblehead. We will begin at the library for a brief overview of sensory gardens. Then we’ll walk over to the Sensory Garden site in James Park, about 200 yards north of the library. No registration required for this family-friendly program. All materials for planting will be provided. Just show up wearing some work clothes and get digging! Participants will also receive a free plant to take home.

Preschool Story Time, Erie Islands Library; 11 – 11:30 a.m.; Children. Join Librarian Karen Wilhelm for a half hour of reading, song and a craft to take home. Parents and caregivers are asked to stay with their children. No registration required.

Monday June 5

Humane Society of Ottawa County Donation Drive, All Branches; All Ages. Spread kindness by helping us collect donations for animals in need! The library will be collecting donations between June 5 – 17. All donations will go to the Humane Society of Ottawa County. If you are unable to donate items, consider donating your time by volunteering! For a list of items needed, check our website.

Birding in Ohio @Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ida Rupp Public Library; 10 – 11 a.m.; Adults. Visit the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area with Becca Matthews to discuss birds and birding in Ohio. Meeting on the West End of the boardwalk, we’ll go on a guided trip to search for birds. For the best viewing experience, feel free to bring a pair of binoculars! No registration required. In case of rain, the program will be canceled.

Art Market, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3 – 4 p.m.; Children. Arts and Crafts…with a twist! Program geared toward ages 4-12. Every participant will be given an envelope of play money to “purchase” art supplies for their creation. Get introduced to the idea of currency and budgeting, while having a blast creating something fun. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required.

Public Safety Vehicle Display, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 12 – 1 p.m.; All Ages. Come to the Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library parking lot to see fire and police vehicles up close. Vehicles provided by the Marblehead Police Department and the Danbury Township Fire Department. No registration required. Patrons may just drop by the parking lot any time during the hour to participate.

Books & Brews @Wee Willy’s, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6:30 – 8 p.m.; Adults. Visit Wee Willy’s to talk about your new & old favorite titles! Each month we also have a genre goal. For this meeting, we have decided to begin to read across America. This month we will focus on books set in Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Island, Guam, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands. No need to register.

Save Duff Wood Preserve from Garlic Mustard!, Erie Islands Library; 9 – 10:30 a.m.; All Ages. Stop the spread of the invasive garlic mustard plant! Come to the newest nature preserve on Put-in-Bay, Duff Woods Preserve, and help us pull this non-native species that is taking over this beautiful trail. Garbage bags, gloves and a water cooler (or bring your own favorite water bottle) will be on hand. Let’s keep our island beautiful and show a little love to Duff Woods Nature Preserve! Everyone is welcome! In conjunction with Lake Erie Islands Conservancy.

Pulitzer Prize Book Club, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 4 – 5 p.m.; Adults. Visit Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library to read & discuss a Pulitzer Prize winning book. Now is your chance to read one and discuss it with a lively group! This month the group will discuss The Known World, by Edward P. Jones. No registration required.

Adult Coloring, Erie Islands Library; 6 – 7 p.m.; Adults. Need something relaxing to do away from the hustle and bustle of your crazy home? Come to the library to sit quietly with friends coloring. Erie MetroParks: Animal Encounters @The District, Ida Rupp Public Library; 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.; All Ages. Erie MetroParks will be bringing their Nature On Wheels trailer to Main Street Port Clinton Entertainment District to bring nature to you! EMP will bring some animals with them for demonstration, and it is sure to be an educational and exciting time! No registration required.

Friends of the Library Book Sale, Erie Islands Library; 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; All Ages. Looking for a good read? Trying to restock your island library? Stop on down for a huge island Book Sale! Loads of popular titles for all ages. Don’t miss out! If you’re not on the island on this date, don’t fret! There will be more pop-up sales throughout the summer. Vineyard Book Discussion, Ida Rupp Public Library; 1 – 2 p.m.; Adults. Visit Ohio Living Vineyard on Catawba for a monthly book discussion group meeting in the Community Room. Caricatures & Self Portraits with Holman Arts, Ida Rupp Public Library; 2 – 3 p.m.; Teens. Teens entering grades 6-12 are invited to meet Holman Arts at the library to trade your self-portrait for a professional drawing you get to keep! Jackie will be there to assist you in drawing your own self portrait while you wait for Ryan to draw a caricature that you get to take home. A caricature is an exaggerated self-portrait. Helping Paws, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3 – 4:30 p.m.; All Ages. Join us with the Humane Society of Ottawa County to discuss the benefits and importance of neutering animals. Afterward, we’ll provide various supplies to make pet toys that will be donated to pets in need at the Humane Society. No registration required.

Miki will discuss and demonstrate the shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute) and koto (National instrument of Japan) instruments and perform traditional Japanese music. No registration required. Family Movie!, Ida Rupp Public Library; 1 – 2:30 p.m.; Family. Come to the library to watch The Secret Life of Pets (2016; rated PG)! Movie is acceptable for all ages, but this is a family program. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required.

Clemens Cemetery Tour, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 9:30 – 11 a.m.; All Ages. This tour takes place on the grounds of Clemons Cemetery. The tour will educate about Clemons Cemetery, its interred, the cemetery restoration process, and the preservation of these local treasures. The terrain of the cemetery is unlevel grass. The tour will last about an hour. For this tour we meet at the cemetery.

All branches closed for Juneteenth. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the date on which enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news they were free.

We will meet near the restrooms in the park’s campground. This is located at the first entrance on your right as you are coming into the park. Watercolor Art, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6 – 7 p.m.; Adults. We welcome local hobby artist, Morgan, as she guides us through creating watercolor art. Attendees can expect to use watercolor paints in addition to trying their hands at some pen work while enjoying some snacks, conversations and laughs. Board Game Day, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3 – 4 p.m.; Children. Children in grades 2nd through 5th are invited to the library to play a variety of board games together. Come play as a team or by yourself, and get to know new people through gaming! No registration is required.

Monday June 26

Food Pantry Drive, All Branches; All Ages. Bring your canned goods and other shelf-stable items to each of our branches. Please do not bring expired items or perishable goods. Things like canned soup, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and rice are all great items to bring. Thank you for your donations! Donations will benefit St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at Ida Rupp, St. Paul’s Lutheran Food Pantry at Marblehead, St. Paul’s Episcopal at Erie Islands. All branches will be collecting through July 8.

Flying to New Heights: Paper Airplane Exploration, Ida Rupp Public Library; 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Children. Children ages 4-12 are invited to experiment with different ways to fold paper airplanes. Try cutting slits, adding weight, or folding different shapes to create an optimized airplane, and see whose flies the farthest! This program will not be messy. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.

Otterbein Book Club, Ida Rupp Public Library; 1 – 2 p.m.; Adults. The Otterbein Book Club is open to anyone; you do not need to be a resident of Otterbein to participate. June’s book is the first half of Great Circle, by Maggie Shipstead.

Navigating Nonfiction, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3 – 4 p.m.; Adults. Ever wonder what nonfiction is all about? Join us each month to review and discuss various nonfiction books on similar topics. Books can be selected from the titles for the NNF book group held behind the information desk. Each month will focus on a different subject area. It’s summer! And the topic is FOOD!! More specifically “what’s cooking?” Brunch, BBQ, Baking … Find your favorite or learn something completely new!

Beach Glass Bouquet, Ida Rupp Public Library; 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Adults. Celebrate kindness by making a beach glass craft to gift to a friend! Linda Ogram will show us the steps to make a colorful bouquet of flowers using beach glass on a canvas. Registration required. Registration begins Wednesday, June 14th at 9:00 am. Register on our website. If you need assistance give us a call or stop in. Limit of 22 participants.

Positivity Rocks @The District, Ida Rupp Public Library; 3 – 4 p.m.; Children. Children up to age 12 are invited to come to Downtown Port Clinton to paint rocks with encouraging messages or uplifting art to beautify the community. We will be using non-toxic acrylic paint, so you may want to wear messy clothes. You are encouraged to send your rocks into the community to brighten the day of those who come across them! Hide them on Madison Street after you are done. No registration is required for this event.

We will meet by the lighthouse at Waterworks Park. Corvid is going to bring their ukulele! Take home some seed bombs and blow bubbles after the stories. Registration is not required for this story time. In case of inclement weather, story time will be held under the canopy at Lakeview Park, 1100 E Perry Street, Port Clinton.

Succulent Planters, Erie Island Library; 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.; Adults. Have you always wanted a plant that requires little care but looks beautiful? We have just the thing for you! Valerie Kowalski, landscaper extraordinaire of Yardworks, will be on hand to help you plant your very own succulent planter using filter frames from a local vineyard. She’ll provide all the information you will need to have a successful project in about one hour. All supplies will be furnished. Limit of 12. Registration is required and will start on June 15. Wild & Wacky Balloon Show @The District, Ida Rupp Public Library; 1 – 2 p.m.; All Ages. Visit downtown Port Clinton and join us for a fast-paced, silly, and magical performance by Mr. Zap. Laugh and be amazed with Mr. Zap’s funny antics as he creates balloon art! No registration required. In case of rain, join us in our community rooms at the library.
