Felber was the first artist to perform as part of the local Musical Arts Series in Port Clinton 21 years ago.

Jill Felber, a member of the Port Clinton High School Class of 1976, has become an internationally acclaimed recording artist, dynamic flute recitalist, innovative chamber musician, legendary contemporary music specialist, and a distinguished flute professor who inspires and motivates students worldwide.

Felber was the first artist to perform as part of the local Musical Arts Series in Port Clinton 21 years ago, and has gone on to  perform internationally on five continents. The Port Clinton City Schools has announced Felber is coming back to her hometown!

She will be performing on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center in Port Clinton. The concert will be a fundraising concert for the Port Clinton Schools Music program. While the concert will be free, Port Clinton alumni and music faculty are asking for sponsorships and donations. All proceeds will benefit the Port Clinton Schools music programs. Donations may be tax deductible.

“I am both humbled and honored to give back to the Port Clinton music program that shaped my personal and artistic life in so many ways,” said Felber. “The opportunities and experiences we were given as members of the music community in Port Clinton were so valuable and memorable for our individual and collective growth.”

Joining the concert will be Jackie Mayer, Miss America 1963, who will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Felber will be performing with pianist Dianne Frazer, recognized globally as a premiere collaborative pianist and has performed with a “who’s who” of international artists.

Diane Hawk is leader of the concert planning committee.

“We have a wonderful committee of alumni and we are so excited that Jill is bringing her musical talents to Port Clinton. All proceeds will benefit the Port Clinton Music Program that is so important to me,” said Hawk. “ My father, Earl E. Warnke, was an iconic Port Clinton High Band Director and proud alumnus. I am still amazed at the impact he had on so many lives and the Port Clinton music program. With Jill performing in honor of his memory to raise funds for new instruments, his legacy continues to impact our Port Clinton music students.”

Joining Hawk on the Jill Felber Concert Planning Committee are: Jan Gluth, Julie Rosiar, Jane Held, Jill Bothe, Jane Harris, Suzy Wittenmyer, Jane Keys, High School Band Director Sean DeLong, Middle School Band Director Jennifer Barringer, and graphic designer Rick Henkel.

The concert planning committee is challenging other Port Clinton High classes to follow Jill Felber’s lead and make a donation to benefit the Port Clinton Music Department. All donations will be designated to help purchase instruments for the high school and middle school music program. Any donation is appreciated and the following sponsor levels will be listed in the concert program: Major Scale, $2,000; Minor Scale, $1,000; Pentatonic Scale, $500; and Whole Tone Scale, $250. Sponsorship forms and additional information may be found at www.pccsd.net under the “News” section or contact any planning committee member.
