Issue 1 rejected by Ohio voters, 57% to 42%

Ohioans overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to make it more difficult for citizens to amend the constitution. The only item on voters’ ballots Tuesday was Issue 1, a legislature-initiated amendment to Ohio’s constitution that would raise the threshold for future constitutional amendments to become law.

The Ohio Secretary of State posted election results on Thursday morning.

State Issue 1: Elevating the Standards to Qualify for an Initiated Constitutional Amendment and to Pass a Constitutional Amendment.

YES – 1,315,350 – 42.99%

NO – 1,744,090 – 57.01%

Ottawa County

YES – 6476 – 48.72%

NO – 6817 – 51.28%
