James I. Kleinhans, 92, of Port Clinton, passed away on Monday, July 18, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky. He was born on Aug. 13, 1929, in Port Clinton, the son of the late Ivan and Eva (McRitchie) Kleinhans. On Dec. 20, 1947, in Covington, Ky., he married Evelyn M. Krepel and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2010.
James owned and operated Karl and Krepel Plumbing and Heating in Port Clinton for many years and later the laundry mat in town until he retired in 1991. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church; Past Master of the Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge #341 and Past President of the Port Clinton Lions Club. He enjoyed watching sports and traveling in his motorhome.
Survivors include his sons, James M. (Vi) Kleinhans, Bascom, Karl Kleinhans, Sandusky, Paul (Sue Tarry) Kleinhans, Toledo, Charles (Pam Wolf) Kleinhans, Port Clinton, and Scott Kleinhans, Port Clinton; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Laura Kleinhans. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sister, Janice Klenk, brother, Harry Kleinhans, and daughter-in-law, Stacy Kleinhans.
Per James’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 430 Jackson Street, Port Clinton, Ohio.
