James “Jim” Warrick, 86, passed away Tuesday March 12, 2024 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital, after a brief illness. Jim was an inspiration to all who knew him and watched him wage a 13 year battle with Parkinson’s. His Parkinson’s was no match for his strength, endurance, and positive attitude and it never held him back. He continued to be an active and very social resident of Port Clinton.

He was born October 24, 1937 in Columbiana, Ohio to the late Everett and Miriam (Detwiler) Warrick. Jim graduated from Columbiana High School in 1955. He then went on to study at Ohio University, graduating in 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the U.S. Gypsum Co. in 1959 as a co-op and joined the firm permanently in 1960 in Gypsum, Ohio. He enjoyed a long career at USG as General Superintendent and Engineering Manager and was a mentor to many future USG leaders, retiring in 2000 after 40 years of service.

His first year at Gypsum he met Dotty Fischer in the front office, marrying her on June 24, 1961.

Jim was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, The Port Clinton Yacht Club, Elks, and member of the steering committee that started the Port Clinton Lighthouse. He was an honorary member and official fish fryer for Dotty’s PCHS class of 1954. Jim was a regular at the PCHS morning basketball league, befriending a new generation of athletes. He was a dedicated lifelong Redskins fans, enjoyed attending Port Clinton High School football and basketball games and a huge OSU fan, sporting their logo almost every day.

In retirement, his favorite pastime was traveling with Dotty for over 20 years and spending time with his children and 4 grandchildren, attending their various sports and events.

Jim most recently lived at the Vineyard on Catawba Island. He lived and flourished, at “The Chalet” for the past 2 years, continuing to enjoy his life. Our thanks to the staff at the Chalet for the love and care they showed our dad.

Jim is survived by his children, Barbie(Brad) Price of Cincinnati, OH, Debbie Ballinger of Cincinnati, OH and Jeff (Ray Fridenstine) of Chicago, IL.; grandchildren Meredith Ballinger of Orleans, MA and Graham Ballinger of Cincinnati, OH and Chris (Kayla) Price of Norwood, OH and Jillian (Zach King) Price of Covington, KY, sister-in-law Phyllis Warrick of Plainfield, IL and brother Ken Warrick of Indianapolis, IN and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dotty Warrick, parents, brother Dave Warrick, sister-in-law Janet Fischer and son-in-law Dr. Chris Ballinger.
