Jared Shetzer has been approved as the new boys basketball coach at Clyde. Shetzer has been the Clyde Fliers boys basketball assistant coach for the past two seasons. Shetzer is a 2003 graduate of Clyde High School, and he was a coach at Bay where he had a record of 139-80 in his nine years there. Shetzer led the Bay Rockets to the Division II state semi-finals in 2016. Shetzer resigned from Bay two years ago and moved back to Clyde. Shetzer is a seventh-grade World Studies teacher at McPherson Middle School.

Clyde athletic director Ryan Greenslade pursued Shetzer when the opening became available in mid-April. The position opened up when Ryan Fretz stepped down after eight years to take the boys coaching job at Tiffin Columbian. Shetzer played football, baseball, basketball and tennis at Clyde High School. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Toledo and his master’s degree from Concordia University in Illinois. Following college, Shetzer was a substitute teacher at Clyde and Genoa. From there he moved to a teaching job at Bay, and he was the JV girl’s coach for two years. He also coached the boys JV team for one season before being elevated to head coach.
