I am running for law director because I have the best experience, strongest connection to the city, no conflict of interest issue, and a clear vision. I have the broad experience a law director needs to best advise, write, and argue. I have been an assistant prosecutor in three northwest Ohio counties. I was also the Ottawa Regional Planning Director.
I have regularly advised officials on issues ranging from criminal to zoning. I have prepared a wide array of legal documents including local legislation, which is a core part of the law director job. I have strong litigation experience. In addition to countless bench trials, I have argued more than 40 cases to a jury and more than 30 cases in the court of appeals.
I have a strong connection to the city. I first lived here almost 10 years ago when I rented a house on Oak Street. My children go to school here, and my wife works here.
Unlike my opponent, I do not work for Ottawa County any more. This allows me to effectively represent the city without the burden of known conflicts of interest that risk wasting taxpayer money.
My vision is to do the job of law director with the same energy, commitment, and professionalism I showed in my campaign. I will be accessible, accountable, and independent. A law director is not another member of city council. I will not hesitate to give city council the hard advice it might sometimes need.
