Judith “Judy” Christine Lippus, 88, of Catawba Island, passed away peacefully on June 15 with her family by her side. Judy was born May 7, 1935, in Cleveland, and was raised in Sandusky. She graduated from Sandusky High School, where she was a member of Swan Club and A Capella Choir. As a young woman, Judy was employed as a secretary at Hinde & Dauch Paper Company and Toledo Hospital. With her love of flowers, she worked for Mary’s Blossom Shoppe in Port Clinton for many years.
Judy lived most of her life in Port Clinton and Catawba Island. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sandusky and joyfully sang in the choir.
Judy enjoyed crafting and decorating, and she had a great love of nature. She rescued small animals and loved to feed the chipmunks and squirrels in her back yard. It was not unusual for Judy to return from a walk with a bag of litter she had picked up. She had a passion for swimming, which she enjoyed throughout her life.
Judy is survived by her sons: Craig (Cathy) Lippus of San Jose, Calif., Jim (Kathryn Gordon) Lippus of Port Clinton, and her daughter: Sheri Taylor of San Diego, Calif.; sisters: Jacqueline (Phil) Gutkoski of Catawba Island, and Janet Linkenbach of Monterey, Calif.; her grandchildren: Amy (Garin) Wally of Missoula, Mont., Katherine Lippus of Denver, Colo., Jakob Parker Taylor of Charleston, S.C., and Marchese (Jeremy Bullock) Taylor of Los Angeles, Calif.; and her beautiful great-granddaughter: Joey Rose Bullock. Judy also has many nieces, nephews and other family members who will miss her dearly. Judy was preceded in death by her parents: Beatrice (Herb) and Chester Bohn; maternal grandparents: Catherine and John Herb, who raised her; and brother-in-law: Dr. Charles R. Linkenbach.
The family hosted visitation Monday, June 19, at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers were recited on Tuesday, June 20, in the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky.
