Port Clinton City School Board of Education Vice President Michele Mueller with Flagship Award winners Ken Williams and Tonia Walker, President Beth Benko of the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Patrick Adkins.

The Flagship Awards are part of Port Clinton City School District’s recognition program to honor parents, community members and staff that help the district fulfill its motto of “Proudly Charting a Course for Success.” There are three award categories — Captain for staff, First Mate for parents, and Crew for the community. At its recent meeting, the Port Clinton Board of Education recognized the following individuals with Flagship Awards.

Ken Williams, Crew Award – Williams was the Chief Operating Officer of the Catawba Island Club and is a founding member and served as the Director of the Ottawa County Business Advisory Council. His leadership as the director has led to tremendous opportunities for students.

Some of the programs Williams has been instrumental in implementing include: Skilled Trades Academy, STNA Academy, and the CEO program.

These programs have led to hands-on learning opportunities for students of Ottawa County.

Students can experience real life career opportunities, earn certification for a specified field and a very high job placement percentage. The Ottawa County Business Advisory Council has been recognized as one of the leading councils in Ohio.

Tonia Walker, Captain Award – Walker shows up everyday to work as Port Clinton Middle School’s morning custodian with a positive attitude and a phenomenal work ethic.

She has built relationships with students — especially the newest students to the building, the sixth grade students. She has developed contests to help students be more responsible, helps Compass students everyday at lunch, and decorates the building skeleton to bring cheer to staff and students.

Walker goes above and beyond to bring cheer and happiness to everyone she comes across. She celebrates students and staff members alike by decorating for holidays, recognizing birthdays, and creating positive incentives for “cleanest bathroom awards.” She has a “can do” attitude that everyone recognizes and appreciates.
