Leia Lyden was approved as Perkins High School’s new girls basketball coach at last week’s school board meeting. Lyden was a three-time all-conference selection at River Valley High School in southern Ohio and went on to compete at three different colleges. Lyden began her college career at the NCAA Division II level at Fairmont State in West Virginia before playing one season at the University of Virginia at Wise. Lyden then transferred to Heidelberg University, where she graduated in 2020.

Lyden interviewed for the job in April. She is married to Luke Lyden, who is an assistant football coach at Perkins. Lyden earned a master’s degree from The Ohio State University in 2021, and she works as a cognitive systems engineer for Mile Two, a custom software development company in Dayton. Lyden will replace Ryan Orshoski, who stepped down after two seasons as the head coach. Orshiski had a record of 26-22. Lyden had a meet-and-greet with her players, and she is working on completing her coaching staff.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the people and building relationships in the community,” Lyden said.
