The iconic Marblehead Lighthouse is the most photographed tourism location in Ohio.

There will be a lot of family fun all around the Marblehead Peninsula on Saturday, Oct. 9, with the Village of Marblehead, Lakeside Chautauqua and Danbury Township all hosting events.

The 25th annual Lakeside Marblehead Lighthouse Festival is on Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and centered around the Marblehead Lighthouse State Park that juts into Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. After having to take a year off because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Marblehead shops are humming, and the Marblehead Lighthouse and museums are open to visitors from noon to 4 p.m.

The last Marblehead Lighthouse tour begins at 3:40 p.m., so buy tour tickets early.

A Fall Craft Show will also be held by St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, which is next to the Marblehead Lighthouse, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. More than 50 vendors will be selling homemade delights, including bakery.

Children’s games and rides, as well as dining and shopping, is featured at Lakeside Chautauqua on Saturday. There will be no parking fees for the Lighthouse Festival.

The Keeper’s House, just down the street from the lighthouse at 9999 Bayshore Rd., is hosting a unique Civil War Encampment from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The 73rd Ohio Volunteers Infantry Regiment Band will play military tunes hourly and hot bean soup and cornbread will be on hearth-cooking specialist Beck Shemenki’s menu.

New this year at the Keeper’s House will be History Speaks, a story-telling group narrated by Katie Swank starting at 12:30 p.m.

Lakeside’s Arts & Crafts Fair, live musical entertainment, children’s games and crafts, hairdos, a farmer’s market, mini-golf, shuffleboard, wooden boat rides and festival food will be enhanced by its free parking for the Lighthouse Festival.

Admission and parking for the festival are free, but some tours and activities have a nominal fee. While limited parking is available throughout Lakeside, guests are encouraged to park in Lakeside’s South Gate parking lot, which is accessed from Route 163. Complimentary golf cart shuttles will be available from the South Gate and throughout the Lakeside grounds.

The Lakeside Marblehead Lighthouse Festival is organized by the Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and Lakeside Chautauqua. For more information on the Lighthouse Festival visit lakesideohio.com/calendar.
