Melissa Wehner knows what women look for in a boutique. Her shop, Perfect Imperfections in Oak Harbor, is filled with trendy clothes, handcrafted lotions, unique home décor and scented candles, all made by local vendors. But Melissa has a secret: she knows what men want, too.

Amongst the hand-painted signs, lip balm and baby clothes is a cigar bar, and Melissa will offer alcoholic drinks as soon as she receives official authorization.

“My liquor license has been approved. I’m just waiting for the health department inspection. I feel like I’m at the tail end of getting it,” Melissa said. “A man will be able to have a bourbon and watch the game while his wife shops. The liquor license is tied to Pisanello’s Pizza, so customers can get pizza and eat it here.”

The cigar bar features a variety of cigars for all budgets, including hand-rolled cigars from local maker, Max Oswald.

“His cigars are one of our biggest sellers,” Melissa said.

The idea to offer bourbon and cigars started with Melissa’s husband, Matt Wehner.

“This was my husband’s dream. It’s been a huge success, and I want grow it,” Melissa said. “He’s a connoisseur. He has a lot of knowledge about bourbon and cigars.”

Perfect Imperfections sells other man-merch, including tables and staves made from whiskey barrel tops by Northwest Ohio artisan Mark Messa. The shop also sells Messa’s coasters and beer flights.

Perfect Imperfections, which opened in September, is more than just a boutique. The shop includes a spray tan salon featuring the GloBody spray tan line, and the business features an event venue that offers space for parties, showers and business meetings. The rental space offers a refrigerator, sink and handicap-accessible bathroom. It is available from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. for $225.

“I also do residential and commercial decorating, staging and design,” Melissa said. “I recently designed and decorated for Christmas at The Keg in Graytown.”

Debbie Paul of Marblehead made her second visit to Perfect Imperfections on Dec. 30 and walked away with a new sweater and earrings. The friendly atmosphere was as much of a pull as the merchandise.

“It’s just warm and cozy here,” Paul said. “I like buying from local vendors, and I like that the shop has so many unique items.”

Perfect Imperfections is located at 104 W. Water St. in Oak Harbor. For more information, call 419-607-1950 or visit www.perfectimperfectionsboutique.com.
