Some of the early four-stomper teams hit the Mon Ami stage on Sunday to compete in the Great Grape Stomp.
A great group of grape stompers invaded Catawba Island on Sunday to squiggle their toes among bunches of lots of grapes. The four-person teams each had three stompers and one “catcher,” who manned a pitcher to capture the grape juice flowing from stubby stomping barrels with bunches of grapes.
The teams competed all afternoon in a bid to advance to the finals, while fans cheered, enjoyed live music and games, dined on barbecue, sipped wine and bid on live and silent auctions to benefit United Way in Ottawa County.
The winning team of grape stompers were Mercy Me!, the team from the Luther Home of Mercy in Williston, Ohio. Team members were Joann Allred, Kim Auxter, Terri Rodriguez and Karen Shaffer. Second went to Pour Decisions from First Federal Savings of Lorain, followed by The Grape D’Feeters from Fredericktown, Ohio.

The most colorful team of grape stompers at the Great Grape Stomp at Mon Ami Restaurant and Historic Winery on Sunday was The Grape D’Feeters, traveling all the way from Fredericktown, Ohio to Catawba Island to wear their bunch ‘o grapes outfits.
