PORT CLINTON – On Aug. 12, visitors to Magruder Hospital had the chance to stop by the Specialty Clinics Showcase, where they could enjoy free Kona Ice and hot dogs, pick up lots of freebies, and meet the staff who offer a wide variety of services. The free event highlighted the many medical services that patients can receive close to home.

Magruder’s Occupational Health Department hosted a school supply giveaway, providing free folders, notebooks, glue and other supplies to give kids a strong start on school. Occupational Health also provided reduced-rate school physicals, and the Ottawa County Health Department offered immunizations.

The Vein & Body Specialists staff talked about their esthetic and medical services, and Pharmacy Director Josh Spayde shared resources about Magruder’s two pharmacies – its in-house pharmacy at the hospital and its pharmacy located inside Bassett’s Market.

Magruder’s Wound Care department hosted a game that helped participants learn about misconceptions of caring for wounds, and many of the other departments offered fun freebies along with information. Other participating departments included Neurology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Speech Therapy, Podiatry and Surgery.

Magruder staff shared information about “Grapes & Grains – A Celebration of Food & Spirits” on Thursday, Oct. 9. The event is hosted by the Magruder Hospital Foundation and will raise funds for a new operating table specifically designed for hip surgeries. Attendees also learned about the Style & Trunk Show hosted by the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Port Clinton Yacht Club. The event will include shopping, a silent auction, door prizes and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Tickets cost $35 and can be purchased at Mary’s Blossom Shoppe at 125 N. Madison St. in Port Clinton or at the Magruder Hospital Gift Shop.

The Specialty Clinics Showcase helped connect local residents with information and resources, but more importantly, it introduced them to Magruder’s caring staff.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to come out and see what kinds of services we offer, and it’s a great opportunity for people to come out and meet us,” said General Surgery Receptionist Angel Obregon.
