Marblehead artist Debra Sue Solecki will be featured this month at the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council’s The Arts Garage (TAG). An opening reception will be held Friday, March 11, at 6 p.m. Solecki, who started selling her paintings while still in high school, will be showing three series of artworks of about 40 pieces of art through April 10.
Creating a mixture of acrylic, watercolors, chalk drawings and mixed mediums, Solecki says her love of art began, like many others, when she was handed a crayon as a toddler. She finds it important to keep the child alive in her work, as many people lose that as they grow up.
“My art is rooted in realism and inspired by nature,” she said. She often dials in on a specific area so much it begins to lose its realism.
There will also be a collaborative piece that visitors to TAG can participate in, she said. “We’ll all be creating a piece of art together,” she said of the mixed-medium piece.
The exhibit will be open at TAG every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and by appointment.
Born in Northwestern Pennsylvania, Solecki spends time between Westlake and Marblehead with her husband, John, who is a charter captain for So Lucki Charters.
